The Introduction of the NHS Internal Market

On 5 December 2017 a witness seminar will be held in London on the introduction of the NHS internal market in 1991, the first significant step towards managed competition in the NHS through the purchaser/provider split. The event will bring together leading representatives of the medical profession, civil service, health services management, health economics and government to discuss the origins of the reforms, their aims and their impact. As the NHS faces an uncertain future, what lessons can we learn from one of the most important moments in its recent history?
