The Oxford Centre for the History of Childhood’s colloquium focuses this year on the creative child. Papers will explore the ways in which children have colonised spaces, across the medieval and modern periods and in diverse geographical contexts. The colloquium will begin by examining spatial approaches and children’s geographies, before considering case studies of the particular ways in which children have imposed themselves on their home environments, on selective spaces set up by adults to foster their development, and on the wider world in which they move and over which adults have had limited control.
