Eighty years after Valencia became the capital of Spain (between November 1936 and October 1937), the University of Valencia wants to commemorate this anniversary encouraging further reflection and discussion on different aspects of the Spanish Civil War developed between 1936 and 1939. Specially, we seek to achieve a renewal in the studies of that period through new issues or renewed theoretical and methodological perspectives.
Therefore, on 25, 26 and 27 October 2017 the University of Valencia will hold a Conference summoned through this circular. The Conference will be structured in different thematic sessions which will combine the presence of guest speakers and submitted papers presenters. The Conference will address six fields (with the broadest possible approach) within which it is intended to give special relevance to crosscutting themes and perspectives to all of them, particularly to studies on gender identities. The main themes of the Conference will be:
1. Spanish Civil War in the international context.
2. Political mobilization, collective action and political violence.
3. Culture and education.
4. Daily life, working life and leisure time.
5. Nationalisms, national and regional identities.
6. The memory of the Spanish Civil War.
